Meet Karyn Scott
Specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapist & Counsellor based in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland.

MBACP Accredited Register

My story & approach
I became a CBT therapist because I genuinely believe that with the right support, people can make meaningful, lasting changes to their mental health. My own experiences — and those of people close to me — led me to train in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, one of the most effective therapeutic approaches available.
I have worked in a wide variety of settings from GP surgeries, health and social care trusts to private and community settings. I have been a CBT course trainer and supervisor on both post graduate and certificate courses in cognitive therapy and have delivered CBT based stress control courses for HSCNI - Belfast Trust
I hold a P.G.Diploma in CBT from the Belfast Cognitive Therapy Centre, alongside a Diploma in Generic Counselling Skills and a B.A.Hons in Political Science from Queen’s University Belfast. I am a full member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Register and receive regular clinical supervision to ensure my practice remains safe, ethical, and up to date.
My practice is based in Hillsborough, a historic village in County Down, Northern Ireland. I offer both in-person sessions and online therapy, making support accessible wherever you are.
How I work
From our very first conversation, I aim to make you feel heard, respected, and understood. Therapy is not something I do to you — it’s something we do together. We’ll start by exploring what’s troubling you, set clear, achievable goals, and work through structured sessions that give you practical tools to manage your difficulties.
Sessions typically last 60 minutes and are tailored entirely to your needs. Most people benefit from between 6 and 20 sessions, though this varies depending on your goals and circumstances.
Confidentiality
Everything you share in therapy stays between us. The only exception is if I have serious concerns about your safety or the safety of others — and even then, I would discuss this with you before taking any action.
